He has been a performer since the age of five when he commenced formal music training at the Lismore Conservatorium Centre. He graduated with merit from the University of New South Wales where he was active on campus in theatre, writing and performing in revues and band competitions.
Alastair has studied (post graduate) theatre at the esteemed school Ecole Philippe Gaulier in London and has freelanced with Australia's major theme parks – MovieWorld, Dreamworld - as well as Universal Studios in Japan.
He is hugely experienced in many facets of the industry including music, voice overs for radio, street theatre, TV, improvised theatre, and band work. He has starred in an independent feature film "spudmonkey" about the Australian music industry, and is signed with ABC music having released 6 CDs through that label.
He is passionate about impro’ theatre and was part of the 2007 Australian Theatresports Championships representing his home state of Queensland.
Alastair has been the key talent for many Australian and international TV commercials, has warmed-up crowds for live stunt shows and for Steve Irwin’s Croc Hunter Live TV program, and infamously appeared on the NRL Footie Show posing as an Alf (Langer) devotee. His portrayal of a misguided funeral director in a TV commercial (HB Personnel TVC) earned a silver medal at the Brisbane Art Director’s Awards.
Comedy has always been a serious business for Alastair. Many of his acting roles and corporate characters – for example Charlie Chaplin – are comedic in nature. Alastair is active on the stand-up comedy circuit and has twice been a state finalist in Triple J Raw Comedy.
He has worked extensively with international audiences and non-English speaking crowds and his physical comedy skills are finely tuned. He was picked from hundreds of impersonators worldwide to play Charlie Chaplin for a long running Japanese TV commercial, with approval from the Chaplin estate. Here’s just a sample of his many characters:
Austin Powers - Alastair was the original Austin at MovieWorld on the Gold Coast and portrayed this character hosting hundreds of events, performing voice overs and touring Australia.
WHAAM On Tour - Hilarious homage to George and Andrew featuring all their hits like “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” sung live as roving entertainment. Witness the final hours of the duo as George threatens to leave the band and pursue a solo career.
Dudley Fudsworth O.B.E. - A gentleman adventurer who is attempting a land speed record attempt on his Penny Farthing. A great roving character and outdoor event specialist. Tally Ho!
Drovers Dream Bush Band - Featuring Alastair as a guitar toting drover and his sidekick of an emu character, this duo has worked successfully at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, singing traditional Aussie songs and generally causing an Australian stir.
Charlie Chaplin - Alastair has portrayed Chaplin since 1993 including TV ads, theme parks, print media, festivals and corporate events. Alastair played Chaplin at Universal Studios Japan from 2001-2003 and was approved by the Chaplin Estate to play Charlie in a long running TV ad for the Japanese Government.
Einstein - The great man of science has graced many corporate events including technical expos and trade shows. He’s a high-status and “knowledgeable” character to have at any big event.
Batman and Robin - Pay homage to the high camp 60's TV version of dynamic duo Batman and Robin. Crowds will flock to see their antics, and no doubt laugh as they wear their underpants on the outside of their tights held up by their utility belts.
Ned Kelly - Alastair played Ned for a children’s TV show and later for a TV commercial. Ned is a true Aussie icon and perfect for Australiana themed events.
Blues Brothers - This duo have soul, as they shimmy and shake, their Blues Brothers glasses glinting. Crowds are delighted by this
Buddy Holly - Donning those infamous glasses and carting a guitar, this famous Rock n Roller has been successfully entertaining crowds for the last eight years. Add that distinctive vintage Rock n Roll flavour to your event as a duo with The Big Bopper.
